Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG)
The “obesity epidemic” has spurred hundreds of weight-loss programs, from simple calorie-cutting to complex surgical fixes. It is estimated that 65% of adult Americans are overweight. It is no secret that this extra weight is hurting the health of millions world-wide. Many are turning to medical weight loss strategies that involve prescription medication and close monitoring by a physician.
HCG Diet Overview
One of the “very low calorie diets” monitored by physicians is the HCG Diet. It is a weight loss strategy that combines use of low-dose HCG hormone and a specific daily diet of 500 calories. The goal of this combined therapy is not simply weight loss, but fat loss without muscle loss. In many states, physicians are able to prescribe low-dose HCG off-label for weight loss.
What is HCG and How Does it Work?
HCG is human chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone naturally produced by women during pregnancy. It is used in the treatment of conditions like dwarfism, premature menopause and low fertility. HCG, when given in low doses, “tricks” the body into burning more fat for energy instead of muscle when the patient is consuming an ultra-low calorie diet. It is reported that taking HCG helps reduce the feelings of hunger while on a severely calorie-restricted diet.
What Preparations of HCG Are Available?
Low-dose HCG for weight loss is available in a variety of preparations, including: Injectable Oral - Drops taken under the tongue - Small lozenges Nasal Spray

* DO NOT CHEW or SWALLOW troche.
* Rotate the area in the mouth where you place the medication for each dose. This will reduce the risk of mouth irritation.
* It usually takes about 30 min for the troche to dissolve. Do not drink, eat or brush until your dose is dissolved. This will help to keep the medication out of the digestive tract. * To maintain a consistent blood level, you should take the medication at the same time every day.
* How to place the troche in your mouth. When you are ready to put a troche in your mouth. Place the troche up against your gum and cheeks. Gently push the troche as deep as it will go between your cheeks and gums. Take your finger out of your mouth and push on the troche from the outside of your cheeks for at least 30 seconds. The troche should stick to your gum. It is okay if it sticks to your cheek instead of your gum. Wash hands after administration.
