Metformin is an anti-diabetic medication and is generally the preferred initial pharmacologic agent for the treatment of diabetes mellitus 2. It is also used for antipsychotic-induced weight gain, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), gestational diabetes mellitus, and other conditions. This compounded topical cream combines metformin HCl, progesterone, and azelaic acid to help manage the dermatologic effects of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and acne vulgaris. Together, these medications work to reduce breakouts and other skin changes linked to these conditions.
Active Ingredients & How They Work
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects may include burning, redness, itching, and dryness at the application site.
⚠️ Low blood sugar: Tell your doctor if you notice dizziness, headache, shakiness, irregular heartbeat, or hunger.
🚨 Allergic reaction: Seek immediate medical help if you experience swelling of the face, trouble breathing, rash, hives, or itching.
Drug Interactions
Do not use this medication with alcohol. Let your prescriber know about all medications you are taking, as they may interact with this cream.
Warning: Do not use this medication if you have active or a history of breast cancer, blood clots (e.g., pulmonary embolism), or arterial thromboembolic disease (e.g., stroke).
